The Law Union of Ontario (LUO) would not be able to continue its work for social justice without a diverse and active membership. Our members play a variety of roles in the organization, based on each individual’s unique skillset, interest, and capacity. Some take part in one or more LUO working groups, such as the Policing Committee, Prisons Committee, and the Movement Defence Committee. We continue to welcome proposals from our members who are interested in forming new working groups. Moreover, the general membership is responsible for annually electing members to the Steering Committee, thus maintaining the continued leadership of the organization.
In order to be successful, movements for social justice require broad-based coalitions consisting of all members of society. As a result, our membership is not limited to individuals in the legal field – the LUO welcomes applications from anyone in the community who wants to participate in our work.
In this period of worsening economic crisis and rising authoritarianism around the globe, we recognize that participating in the fight against oppression can be daunting, as it often calls for not only time and energy, but also hope. However, the LUO strives to offer opportunities for members to stay involved in movements for social justice while respecting their personal needs, circumstances, and capacity.
The LUO accepts new members on a rolling basis year-round. If you are interested in joining our general membership, we invite you to fill out the application form below. We look forward to welcoming you.
